Tell Good Stories

Sign up or log in to save this to your schedule, view media, leave feedback and see who's attending!

If there is one true thing about all of humanity, it is that we are known to each other and connected through story. Whether you tell your story around the campfire, or in drawing, poetry, film, or music each medium has the power to, in the words of Austin Kleon, “make the complex more tangible, spark associations, and offer entry into things that might otherwise leave one cold”.  What stories do we tell each other about the work we do? Are we excited and inspired by the story of our work? Are we comfortable telling our story—even when that story may not be the triumph we wish it was? This session will read the chapter "Tell Good Stories"  which explores how the stories we tell about the work we’re doing has a profound effect on how people (including us!) understand and feel about our work, and how our work is valued by those who are looking in and we who are looking out! We’ll explore our stories—be they comedies or tragedies—and discover the power of connection through our shared experience!

*We will be reading a section of "Show Your Work" by Austin Kleon and sharing out our thoughts using some form(s) of tech. If you are not a HBUHSD employee, please bring a copy of the book with you so you can particpate. Trust us, you'll want to take this home and read the rest of it!
